The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 came into effect on 21 December 2001. The Privacy Act imposes minimum privacy standards on organizations, including Qtech Business Systems (Qtech), for the handling of personal and sensitive information relating to individuals.
Qtech has decided to be bound by the National Privacy Principles contained within the Privacy Act for the purposes of complying with its obligations under the Act.
Your privacy is important to Qtech. This statement discloses the information practices for Qtech web sites, including what type of information is gathered and tracked, how the information is used, and with whom the information is shared.
Our policy regarding the personal information we collect about you from our website is explained below:
From time to time, you will be asked to submit personal information about yourself (eg. name, e-mail address etc) in order to receive or use services on our website. Such services may include newsletters and competitions, forums and message boards and personalised services.
By entering your details in the fields requested, you enable Qtech to provide you with the services you select. Whenever you provide such personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy. Our services are designed to give you the information that you want to receive.
Qtech will act in accordance with current legislation (Privacy Act 1988 and Privacy (Private Sector) Amendment Act 2000) and we aim to meet current Internet best practice.
In general, you can visit Qtech on the Internet without telling us who you are and without giving any personal information about yourself. There are times, however, when we may need information from you.
You may choose to give us personal information in a variety of situations. For example, you may want to give us information, such as your name and address or e-mail id, to correspond with you or to process a request. You may supply us with financial details to buy something from us or give us a description of your education and work experience in connection with a job opening at Qtech that you wish to be considered for. We intend to let you know how we will use such information before we collect it from you; if you tell us that you do not want us to use this information to make further contact with you beyond fulfilling your requests, we will respect your wishes. If you give us personal information about somebody else, such as a spouse or work colleague, we will assume that you have permission from them to do so.
In general, any information you provide to Qtech will only be used within Qtech itself. It will never be supplied to anyone outside Qtech without first obtaining your consent, unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it.
Also, if you post or send offensive or inappropriate content anywhere on or to Qtech and we consider such behaviour to be serious and/or repeated, then we can use whatever information that is available to it about you to stop such behaviour. This may include informing relevant third parties such as your employer, school or e-mail provider about the content and your behaviour. When you supply any personal information to Qtech we have legal obligations towards you in the way we deal with that data. We must collect the information fairly, that is, we must explain how we will use it (see the notices on particular web pages that let you know why we are requesting the information) and tell you if we want to pass the information on to anyone else.
We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as you use the service you have requested, and remove it in the event that the purpose has been met, or, in the case of a personalised service, you no longer wish to continue your registration as a personalised user.
Where personal information is held for people who are not yet registered but have taken part in Qtech services or events, that information will be held only as long as necessary to ensure that the service is run smoothly. We will ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely in accordance with current legislation.
If you are notified on a Qtech site that your information may be used to allow Qtech to contact you for "service administration purposes", this means that Qtech may contact you for a number of purposes related to the service you have signed up for. For example, we may wish to provide you with password reminders or notify you that the particular service has been suspended for maintenance. We will not contact you for promotional purposes such as notifying you of improvements to the service or new services unless you specifically agree to be contacted for such purposes at the time you submit your information to the site, or at a later time if you sign up specifically to receive such promotional information.
